Food and Drink Dubai offers a fantastic array of cuisine and has
many restaurants and entertainment venues. Dubai tap water is
desalinated (sea) water and safe to drink. However tourists and
residents often prefer to drink locally bottled mineral water.
Dubai Camel Racecourse Camel races are not staged for the tourist,
they are both a passion and a serious business in Dubai conducted
nearly every Thursday and Friday in winter.
Dubai Zoo On the Jumeirah Beach Road is a small but interesting zoo
that is home to a variety of birds, reptiles and exotic animals. Open
1000 - 1830 Wednesday to Monday. Dubai Zoo is the oldest zoo of its
kind not only in the United Arab Emirates but also in the Arabian
Peninsula. Dubai Zoo also happens to be the first Arabian zoo to breed
the rare Chimpanzee and Arabian wild cat.
Shopping Dubai is a shopper's paradise! Home to the Dubai Shopping
Festival and Dubai Summer Surprises, Dubai is famous for offering top
international brands at unbelievably reasonable prices. Opening hours
at shopping malls is throughout the day from 10am - 10pm. However, on
Fridays, they open from 2pm - 10pm. Free of tax, many top brand-name
products are cheaper in Dubai than in the countries of their origin.
Deep Sea Fishing The warmth and shelter of the Gulf attracts a large
variety of fish. Substantial species like the local barracuda, shark
and sail fish are some of the "catch" on offer. Half or full day trips
are available, the best fishing waters some 12 miles offshore. Sailing
and Windsurfing Sailing is one of the most popular pastimes in Dubai.
Fixed keel, dinghy and board sailing are all available. Conditions are
near perfect with minimal tides or currents in the Gulf. Winds are
usually predictable and reassuring for the beginner but strong enough
to challenge the Experienced sailor.
Scuba Diving
Dubai combines excitement for advanced divers with safety for
beginners.
- P.A.D.I. ( Professional Association of Diving Instructors ) and
B.S.A.C. (British Sub Aqua Club ) approved instruction available at
beginners, intermediate and advanced levels.
- May to October is so warm that no wetsuits are needed, 3mm suits are
comfortable for the Rest of the year.
- Many submerged wrecks attract startling array of vivid tropical fish
and make for fascinating diving.
- Coral and Reef diving in the sheltered waters of the Gulf of Oman
offers a chance to see Harmless shark rays and other exotic species.
- All Dubai scuba companies organize dives in both the Gulf and East
Coast waters.
Water-skiing The warm waters of the Gulf and year round sunshine make
Dubai an ideal location for water-skiing. Facilities and locations are
perfect for both beginners and advanced skiers. Each year the Dubai
Water Sports Association invites top performers from Europe and the
United States for a week-long competition and Festival.
Horse Racing A full racing calendar and the already renowned $4 million
Dubai Cup attracts participants and observers from all over the world
to the spectacular Nad Al Sheba course.
Wonderland Wonderland is s a leisure park that caters for all ages.
Attractions include numerous water rides and slides, roller coasters, a
log flume, bumper boats and a nightly water mist show. Located near
Garhoud Bridge.
Wild Wadi Park Wild Wadi Park is located next to the Jumeirah Beach
Hotel and features the tallest and fastest water speed rides outside
North America, other attractions include Log River, Ring Ride, Flood
River, Wave Pool, Flow Rides and lots more.
Safa Park Safa Park is a large green park has been divided into
sections and play areas. There's a video game centre, bumper cars, a
big wheel, lake with fountain, waterfall and boating facilities. It has
three tennis courts, volleyball, basketball, football pitches and
barbecue sites.
Al Nasr Leisureland Located in Bur Dubai, off Zabeel Road, is this
modern leisure park offering a variety of sports facilities including
an ice rink, a bowling alley and swimming pools, as well as a
children's amusement park. Open daily from 0900 hrs to 2200 hrs.
